The Recreational District

As the Meyerail pulls into the station, the people inside (some enticed from residential areas; others, lured after a long day of work) crowd at its doors. Then, with a woosh, they part – and a barrage of rich sights and smells welcome them to the Recreational District of Citropolis.

This is the city’s youthful centre of leisure. Here, the finest culinary exploits and amusement attractions have congregated, tempting denizens from all over to spend their time – and their money.

Locations

Sunset Paradisi Mall

Sunset Paradisi Mall

The shopping hub of the city. Bright light shines in from the glass features of its design, and at sunset, everything is saturated in an orange hue. A general food court is situated on the ground floor, flanked by art installations; on the upper levels, the various department stores and lifestyle shops overlook the bustle below. Following any of the escalators upwards to the roof terrace reveals tranquil seating areas, greenery, and a panoramic view of Citropolis.

Jimbo's Jumbo-sized House of Fun Jimbo's Jumbo-sized House of Fun
On the ground floor of the mall, a vivid neon sign marks the entrance to Jimbo's arcade.

Patrons who follow the trail of fluorescent carpet footprints will be treated to a diverse spread of retro and modern games, bathed in ultraviolet light. Whether looking for a lucky break on a game of chance, or craving to show off your skill and finally finish that level, those urges shall be satisfied here. Hold onto any won tickets – they can be exchanged for fun prizes!

A note from Jim: please be civil when queuing up for a round on Drizzle Disaster.

The Stack Shack The Stack Shack

Le Hamburger à la Main is to die for. Do yourself a favour and order it, please. I promise you won’t regret it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
mmmgm i love the palm patty so delicious one of the best burgers ive ever had i can never go back ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Stack Shack, despite being nestled away in a side street of the district, boasts an impressive reputation (and cult following) for its quirky menu, and diner atmosphere. While feasting on fast food delights, feel free to enjoy the timeless power ballads that, seemingly, endlessly pour out of the wall stereos, or catch an elusive episode of an old sitcom while waiting for your milkshake.

EXHALE!™️ Health & Fitness EXHALE!™️ Health & Fitness
The gym motto: “Just Do It – Just EXHALE!™️”

A modern gym, with a pleasing palette of fresh yellows and energizing apricot. Along with a public swimming pool are a spread of treadmills, dumbbells, stationary bicycles – the works. Gear, such as water bottles, large bags, and breathable clothing, with EXHALE™️ emblazoned on any free surface, can be purchased at the front desk. A schedule of yoga, Pilates and karate classes are also displayed there, and are available for sign-ups, novice or otherwise.

Citropolis Skatepark Citropolis Skatepark

Boarded by trees and cast in sunlight, concrete slopes forming clover shapes and vert ramps can be found here. Graffitied safety signs, portraying Wallace Udarnik in a helmet, urge the youth to “remember your knee pads when attempting sick tricks!”

Though, of course, the most tubular of teenagers know that the best trick of all is sitting down inside the full pipe instead – something a quartet of students from the vocational college practise anytime they can.

Citropolis College for Vocational Education Citropolis College for Vocational Education

An alternative to mainstream academic education during ages 16-19, the CCVE is a vocational college that provides a range of technical course options. Its location in the heart of the recreational district gives the college (and its students) quick access to any necessary or specialist supplies nearby; however, in practice, this mostly means that students make the most of the short distance for fast food and entertainment during lunchbreak.

Rising Falls Garden Centre & Café

Located on the roof terrace of the Sunset Paradisi Mall, Rising Falls Garden Centre & Café is a peaceful place. It offers both a secluded rooftop view of the city, and a spot to pick up flora from its plant nursery. In the café section of the establishment, a number of teenagers can be found employed on their first part-time jobs (currently hiring!), and many Agriculture students can be observed at home amongst the green.

Notable Characters

Jim “Jimbo” Videreo (he/him): The owner of the district's arcade. With his charismatic and welcoming demeanour, Jimbo enjoys being the face of his establishment of mirth. He can often be found manning the prize corner, or making sure patrons are having fun – and if the change machine is acting up, you know you can rely on Jim to help.

Nina Adkins (she/her): A waitress at The Stack Shack. Despite the bags under her eyes, Nina serves up food with a practised smile and a cup of coffee that's always hot. She doesn't have any tolerance for people who harass staff members, or mistreat her other customers; those that do are swiftly introduced to the door.

Brad (he/him), Kyle (he/they), Avril (she/her), and Ramona (she/her): Four teenagers from the same year at CCVE. Somewhere between edgy and cool, they are known for obstructing those bold enough to attempt a loop, and for transferring any of Ramona’s newly learnt art skills straight onto the concrete. Though, it's rumoured they're rather welcoming to outcasts and those labelled “strange” – if you're brave enough to approach them, that is.

Sylvia Falls (she/her): The proprietor of Rising Falls Garden Centre & Café. Sylvia has a bubbly personality, and is very enthusiastic about plants – if prompted by an interested customer, she won't hesitate to ramble about her new stock of orchids, or encourage you to stop and smell the roses.
