Jay Vale

“So you don't consider yourselves vigilantes?”

A camera snaps a picture of Jayce and Jadyn, who sit next to each other on a bench in the park. The reporter, a junior at the Sleuth, scribbles down their answers. It's all very understated – Jay isn't the kind of figure the Sleuth wants to be prominently associated with. The people of Citropolis want to hear from them though.

“No,” says Jadyn, cutting straight to the point.

“We're definitely not dangerous,” says Jayce, “when people say vigilantes they picture people who put the public at risk. But a whole lot of people would have died in the fire last week without us there.”

The reporter nods at that, making a note. “What do you do when you're not on the streets? Do you have a day job?”

“We recently got an internship placement in a government office,” says Jayce. The reporter looks surprised.

Jadyn nods. “That's right. Mostly just carrying coffee for now but we will work our way up. Sparks want to see themselves represented in the government.”

The reporter chews her lip, not passing comment. She pushes in another direction. “It seems like you're attempting a lot. Do you ever have disagreements between you?”

They both laugh at that.

“The dream we're fighting for is a long way off,” says Jayce, “sometimes we have different ideas on how to reach it. That's a strength though – we'd be limited if we only fought on one front.”

“But we never fight like that. I can always understand where he's coming from.”

They take each other's hands and collapse into one person.

“We're the same person. We have the same dream.”
